While the whole town has got familiar with the modern mail service, she refuses to have a metallic number affixed to the side of her house. Throughout the story, she remains quite aloof from the outer world. In fact, she seems quite oblivious to what is happening outside her sealed perimeters. In this story, the past has been portrayed as not as a faint glimmer, but as an ever-present realm, at least for Emily. Her macabre bridal chamber is introduced in the story in a well-constructed setting where Emily had tried to stop time and prevent change, even if it is done by ending a human life.

There are so many areas to explore in the literary analysis of a story, but since there is a limit on word count, you need to be very specific about what you discuss in the analysis. It means your essay must have an impressive introduction, insightful body content and a compelling conclusion. Besides, you also need to include a thesis statement in the essay that will project the main idea of your argument.

Her peculiar connection with the dead bodies of the people she loved which can be called Necrophilia is first revealed when her father dies.

As the narrator tells, Emily clings to the body for her controlling father with a complete denial, not ready to accept that her father is gone forever. Even though she eventually gives his dead body up, she does that with reluctance.

When Homer Barron, the person who was in intimate relationship with Emily, dies, Emily refuses to acknowledge it once again. However, this time she was the one responsible for the death of a person.

By killing the person she loves, Emily was able to keep Homer near her. Although, her attempt to keep him near him made her permanently distant from her. The final step in examining "A Rose for Emily" is by analyzing gender found through anthropology. Faulkner explains the roles of women in the South and how they were seen through the eyes of men. One can clearly see that through the opening sentence of the story, the narrator is stating that women gossip while men are caring and serious.

This is only one of many passages that show that Mr. Faulkner is attempting to make men the stronger gender. Colonel Satoris is described as being an ingenious man but in this sentence, Miss Emily's name isn't even mentioned when the two are compared.

Colonel Satoris is made to be an almost godly figure that is described as being more supreme than the entire female gender. The statement made in this story is that men are the better gender. In conclusion, there are many aspects that were incorporated into "A Rose for Emily". William Faulkner was able to create a story involving many ideas about society and how it functioned in a specific time period in the South. To further examine "A Rose for Emily", one can use the reader response criticism and analyze the aspects of the hidden message found within the story, race found through anthropology, and gender found through anthropology.

Progress, in the form of municipal expansion, becomes old Poquelin's adversary. Surveyors give signs of running a new street close to his house and of draining the morass beside it.

This is, we note, a Poquelin reverse that the townspeople relish; they too oppose new streets, and will welcome engineering difficulties, but their fearful scorn for Poquelin causes them to look upon his forcible return to the community with pleasure. Poquelin goes directly to the Governor, pleads with him in broken English after the Governor understandably declines to speak in the French tongue.

He pleads on the old, man-to-man basis of the past when informality and the importance of the Poquelin name would have made this kind of interview expectable; does not take kindly to the Governor's suggestion that he deal with the city authorities; and even proposes that the Governor personally intercede with the President on his behalf.

To the Governor's innocent query about the stories associated with his house, Poquelin haughtily refuses to answer, and then departs. The city official to whom the Governor has referred him also knows no French and deals with Poquelin through an interpreter.

Unsuccessful here too, Poquelin swears abusively and leaves.
